“Saints” Southampton announced the sacking of Ivan Juric as manager less than 24 hours. After the club were officially relegated from the Premier League.

Southampton suffered the fastest relegation in Premier League history on matchday 31 of the season after a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The

Croatian replaced Russell Martin at the end of December and led the team to just one win from 14 Premier League games. Losing 12 of them. This gave him the worst points-per-game average in Premier League history for a manager with more than 10 games in charge, collecting just four points from 14 games, or an average of 0.29 points per game, and he was in the position for only 108 days.

They were relegated earlier than the previous record holders, Derby County’s 2007-08 team, and still need one more point to avoid matching Derby’s record-breaking points total.

In the meantime, Simon Rusk will take charge of the first-team on an interim basis. While the club search for a new manager, with former captain Adam Lallana as his assistant.

This is not the 49-year-old’s first swift dismissal, having been sacked by Roma after just 12 games in charge. Before

moving to England, he had made his name at Verona and Torino in Italy, but the Premier League is a completely different challenge.
